Continuing the recent trend for cheap long-haul deals from Scandinavian airports, we’ve found some enticing business class fares from Stockholm to a range of Asian and Pacific cities for as little as £1,100 return. Etihad Airways is a relatively young Middle-Eastern carrier based out of Abu Dhabi, UAE. They have a modern fleet, operating predominately 787, 777 and A380 aircraft. They currently have 4-star Skytrax rating that recently dropped from 5. Frequently flyers can earn points on the flight, this will only be at the base earning rate of 115% miles flown unless you have status – see our BG1 Tip at the end. Some of the flights below hit our magic rule of not paying more than £50 per flying hour in biz – Manila, Sydney, and Auckland all look like BUY deals.

The Catch
As is the case with most fares this cheap, there are a couple of (we think minor) sacrifices you have to make. Firstly, the departure point is Stockholm, so you’ll have to pay to get yourself there to start the journey (we call this a “positioning flight”). Secondly, the first flight on the ticket is from Stockholm to Brussels on Brussels Airlines weak short-haul business product to connect you to the Etihad 787 that’ll fly you to Abu Dhabi to then connect with the final flight.

BG1 Tip
Although Etihad isn’t part of Star Alliance, you can credit your points from Etihad flights to the Asiana Airlines frequent flyer program – Asiana Club. Asiana is part of Star Alliance, so you can then redeem your earned Etihad miles against all Star Alliance carriers.
