Good news for loyal Aegean flyers: one of the more fiddly perks in the Miles+Bonus programme just got a digital refresh. As of May 2025, the process for redeeming your free Business Class upgrade voucher has moved entirely online – and honestly, it’s about time.
Previously, using this benefit required phoning customer service like it was still 2006. But now, Silver and Gold members can log into their Miles+Bonus account on aegeanair.com or the Aegean app, submit a request, and if there’s a seat available, the upgrade is confirmed on the spot. No emails, less guesswork, and no hold music.
If there’s no immediate space in Business Class, your request goes on a waiting list, which you can monitor from your account. You can still apply the voucher to any passenger travelling on the same booking – handy for upgrading your partner, boss, or slightly bewildered parent. As Aegean improves the use of the upgrade voucher, we see another step from the airline to modernise its online self-service systems.
Aegean’s Business Class isn’t going to rival Qatar’s Qsuite, but for short-haul hops around Europe, it’s one of the more polished products out there. The airline operates a single-aisle fleet of Airbus A320-family aircraft, and like most European carriers, the Business cabin is really just Economy with a blocked middle seat and upgraded service. That said, Aegean makes the most of the format: there’s proper legroom (32” pitch on most aircraft), decent recline, and leather seats that feel far more premium than the average. Meals are where Aegean shines – even on flights of two hours, you’ll get a thoughtfully plated hot dish inspired by Greek cuisine, served with metal cutlery, warm bread, and a choice of local wines. There’s no inflight entertainment screen, but you can stream content via the Aegean Stream app if you remember to download it beforehand. Service tends to be friendly and proactive, and the whole cabin just feels… calm. If you’re used to flying in economy class around Europe, it’s a noticeable step up – especially when someone else (i.e., your upgrade voucher) is paying.
If you’re interested in what flying Aegean Airlines is like, we’ve reviewed both Aegean economy and Aegean business class products.
There are a few key conditions. The voucher applies to paid Economy Class tickets on Aegean or Olympic Air flights, but not all fares are eligible. If your ticket’s in class U, P, or T – the cheapest categories – you’re out of luck. Same goes for award flights, charter routes, and barter tickets. And miles are still earned based on your original Economy fare, even if you’re reclining up front with linen tableware and a three-course meal.
Once confirmed, upgrades are locked in. If you cancel the flight or don’t show up, the voucher is gone – it won’t be returned or reissued, even if the plane leaves without you. Changes to dates or times may be possible through Aegean’s call centre, but you’ll be charged a re-issue fee, and rerouting isn’t permitted. Full terms are available on Aegean’s website.
It’s not a revolution in benefits, but it is a solid upgrade to the process. The fact that Aegean improves its upgrade voucher logistics without diluting the perk itself is something other loyalty schemes could take notes on. For Silver and Gold members looking to cash in their upgrades without the admin headache, this is very welcome news indeed.
