Hidden Amex Platinum Benefits You Should Know About

American Express Platinum cardholders have a range of benefits that come with the card. Many of the perks are published on the Amex Platinum website, but not all of them. There are a raft of benefits that many cardholders miss out on. We’ve discovered more and more hidden Amex Platinum benefits over the years. We’ve created this page so both you and we can use it as a quick reference.

Plaza Premium Lounge Access

Plaza Premium won’t accept the Priority Pass included with your Platinum Card. The good news is that the Amex card itself will grant you and a guest access to Plaza Premium lounges at 50 locations. If your companion has a supplementary card, you’ll be able to bring an extra guests, meaning one Platinum account can admit up to 4 people.

Lufthansa Business & Senator Lounge Access

If you’re flying Lufthansa, Swiss or Austrian, you can use the Platinum card to get access to Lufthansa lounges. When you’re flying economy, you can use the business class lounge. If you’re flying business, you can use the Senator (first class) lounge. Guests are not permitted, but a supplementary card holder will be able to use their card to gain entry.

Platinum cardholders can access Delta Sky Club lounges at 250 locations when traveling on a same-day ticket on a Delta-operated (Delta or Delta Connection) or Delta-marketed flight operated by WestJet (006 ticket number). Simply present your Amex card and boarding pass to gain entry. Platinum cardholders (and supplementary cardholders) can bring up to two guests for an additional fee of $39 per guest.

Up to 50% off dining at Accor Group restaurants

Accor is the sixth largest hotel group in the world. Their brands include Fairmont, Sofitel, Mondrian, Raffles, Swissotel, Banyan Tree, Movenpick, Pullman, Mercure. Platinum card holders get a 25-50% discount off the bill when dining at the restaurants inside these hotels.

For example, the Skai restaurant at the Swissotel Stamford Singapore offers a 50% discount off the total bill for Amex Platinum card holders.

Not all hotels participate in the promotion, but there are about 1,400 that do. Check before you order to be sure.

Savings on dining and shopping through Live The World

Amex has a myriad of promotional programmes running around the world. Live The World is one every Platinum cardholders should know about. It offers a range of discounts at shopping, dining, entertainment and hotel venues. It’s heavily focused on Asian destinations, although South Africa also features. There are big savings if you use the card to stay at IHG properties, including discounts on food and drink.

Easy route to Star Alliance gold status

Amex Platinum gives you Jade status in Shangri-La’s Golden Circle loyalty programme. Singapore Airlines will offer Golden Circle Jade members a status match to KrisFlyer Gold if they register for the status match and take 3 flights within 4 months. You’ll retain gold for 12 months, which affords you gold status benefits across the whole Star Alliance network. This includes lounge access.

If you don’t complete the flights, you’ll still retain KrisFlyer Silver status for 12 months. Silver doesn’t provide lounge benefits, so isn’t perhaps as valuable.

Tables at fully-booked restaurants

We learnt the value of this perk when we managed to get a table at a fully-booked restaurant in Vancouver. A quick call to the Platinum Concierge service resulted in them calling us back 15 minutes later to confirm the reservation. We now always check with the concierge before changing our plans.

Fast-track security access at some airports

Platinum cardholders don’t need to pay a fee to use the fast-track security lane at all major airports in Italy and Sweden. Toronto Airport also waives through Platinum cardholders. If we’re at an airport with a paid fast-track security lane, we’ll always ask if our Platinum card gets us in.

Access to Centurion Lounges

Amex Platinum cardholders can access any American Express or Centurion lounges around the world. You can bring 2 guests for free until 1 February 2023. After then, guests will charged at $50 per guest.

Cashback Offers

The Amex Platinum card comes with a range of fixed and seasonal cashback offers. The most notable cashback perks on the UK Platinum card are the ones that refund 100% of your spend, essentially “free” money. There are three of these running at the time of writing: £50 back on a £50 purchase from Harvey Nichols, £150 cashback on £150 spend in selected UK restaurants AND a further £150 back on £150 spent in selected overseas restaurants.

You need to registered for cashback offers to be eligible to receive the statement credit. The easiest way to browse and register for cashback offers is through the American Express app – tap the “offers” menu icon.

Other cashback offers appear in the app from time-to-time. These are usually a partial (usually significant) rebate on the amount you spend with specific retailers and hotel chains.
