I stayed here on a work trip because I wanted an east or central Berlin base that still earned through Hilton Honors. Hampton Berlin Alexanderplatz made sense on paper: a practical three-star Hilton property near transport, breakfast included, and none of the faff of a pricier full-service hotel.
The stay broadly did what it needed to do. Not every work trip needs velvet armchairs and a lobby DJ; sometimes you just need a clean bed, a working shower and a route to your first meeting. The room delivered most of that, though it showed more wear than I’d like. Room position made a noticeable difference here.

Location
Hampton Berlin Alexanderplatz sits about five minutes’ walk north of Alexanderplatz, useful without placing you directly in the square’s louder orbit. Berlin Alexanderplatz Bahnhof is around 10 minutes away on foot, with S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and regional rail links. From Alexanderplatz, Berlin Brandenburg Airport is typically around 40 to 45 minutes away using a normal public transport routing, usually via regional rail or S-Bahn depending on timing.
The trade-off is character. This is a large, modern, eight-storey block rather than a charming Berlin hideaway. It has the architectural romance of a well-organised filing cabinet, but for a work trip that was fine.
The tram line runs around the front and side of the building, so lower front-facing rooms risk tram noise, light spill and some vibration. I’d avoid them if you’re a light sleeper.

Check-in
Check-in was straightforward. There was no wait when I arrived, and the Hilton Honors line kept things moving. I wasn’t expecting meaningful status benefits on this booking, and there was no notable upgrade recognition, but the process was efficient and mercifully uneventful.
The lobby had the expected Hampton feel: practical, busy and not pretending to be grander than it is. One lift was out of service during my stay, leaving two for an eight-storey hotel, which could be irritating at peak breakfast or check-out times.

Our Room
For the best room, I’d request the rear of the 8th floor, or the 7th if the top floor is unavailable. Room 832 faced a large green courtyard rather than the road, which helped limit tram and street noise. The neighbouring residential block sat far enough away for the room to get decent light.

The room was a good size overall, though tight around the bed. There were enough countertops and ledges to work from, and the swivel chair could be moved around easily. The bed felt a little firm, but the four pillows were excellent, and the cotton bedding stayed cool overnight.

Maintenance was the weak point. The shower tray showed heavy wear and needed replacing, although water pressure was good. The hairdryer nozzle was broken or mismatched. The damaged USB-A sockets beside the bed also made a faint clicking sound, which is not the lullaby anyone books a Hilton brand to hear.

Facilities & Services
The hotel had the expected Hampton basics: free WiFi, a fitness centre, a business centre and a staffed bar. For a work trip, that was enough. This is a hotel for sleeping, showering, breakfast and getting back out into Berlin.

Service worked better than room maintenance. Check-in and check-out were both efficient, and I had no staff-related issues. The tired bathroom fittings, broken hairdryer attachment and damaged bedside sockets suggested maintenance follow-up needed sharpening.
Bars & Dining

Breakfast
Breakfast was included, which helped the value. At around 8am it was very busy, but the dining area was large enough to cope. Seating included high tables, booths and standard tables.

The buffet covered the usual Hampton spread: scrambled eggs, bacon, meatballs, cold items and the inevitable waffle maker, which continues to make adults behave like unsupervised children at a hotel buffet.

Coffee came from machines and was fairly decent. The juice tasted more like cordial than fresh juice. Overall, breakfast was useful rather than memorable.

Check-out
Check-out was simple. My bill had been emailed overnight, so I handed back the keys and left without any billing confusion.
Standard check-out was 11am during my stay, though I’d check the current time before booking. Departure, at least, was quick, clear and uncomplicated.
BG1 Verdict
Hampton Berlin Alexanderplatz works well as a practical east Berlin base, especially for business travellers and Hilton Honors members who want the Alexanderplatz area without staying directly on top of it. The location is useful, the rear high-floor room was quiet, and breakfast added value.
Would I return? Yes, but with conditions. I’d be happiest at roughly £120 to £140 a night, depending on season and demand. Always request the rear of the 8th floor and avoid lower front-facing rooms because of the tram. I’d also want the hotel to tighten up room maintenance, particularly the USB sockets and bathroom wear.
Locally, I’d probably choose the East Side Gallery Hampton ahead of this one. Still, at the right price, this remains a sensible, functional Berlin option.
