British Airways’ New First Class: Playing Catch-Up or Raising the Bar?

British Airways has unveiled it new First Class cabin. With wider seats, cocooned privacy, and buddy dining, the new design promises a luxurious in-flight experience. While this new cabin looks impressive, it begs the question—are they just catching up?

Let’s face it, airlines like Qatar Airways have been setting the standard with Business Class QSuites that rival First for years. From fully enclosed private spaces to dine-on-demand service, many carriers have been pushing the boundaries of comfort and privacy. Meanwhile, British Airways seem to play catch up, and it’s product is often hailed as the best Business Class in the skies – and for good reason.

The countdown begins – when will this all happen?

British Airways is set to overhaul its A380 fleet as part of a major refurbishment plan, with the new First Class suites expected to be installed by 2026. This new suite will not be available immediately on all A380s. Whether it’s going to be positioned in the upper or lower cabin of the A380s is yet to be seen. It currently sits on the lower deck (read our review).

The new bespoke design, inspired by Concorde and steeped in British craftsmanship, is a step in the right direction. Passengers get luxury touches like buddy dining, personal luggage space, and sound-absorbing panels, which all add to the allure.

Whether it’s playing catch-up or raising the bar: is the British Airways New First Class is a promising stride forward? It might look amazing, but may not be groundbreaking. It’s an exciting development for loyal BA flyers and a sign the airline is taking luxury seriously again. See you in the skies!
