New Primeclass Lounge Sofia Airport review

Sofia Airport has quietly upgraded its premium facilities, and the first sign of that came before I even reached the door. The signage no longer points down the escalator to the tired old Aspire lounge, but along the main concourse to a brand new lounge. This is a sizeable step up from what came before, and I’ll walk you through why in this Primeclass Lounge Sofia Airport review. If you travel through Terminal 2 with a Priority Pass, Dragon Pass, or a British Airways or Lufthansa Group ticket, read on.

Opening Hours

The hours follow the flight schedule rather than a fixed clock. The lounge opens roughly two hours before the first departure and runs until the last gate closes, which Priority Pass lists as 00:00 to 23:59 daily. Access applies to departing passengers from Terminal 2 only, covering both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. The lounge terms also state a maximum stay of three hours, so this is a pre-flight stop, not a place to camp out.

Locating the lounge & reception

After security and duty free, turn right as you enter the main concourse. Officially it sits on Level 2, opposite duty free and near Gate C1. Be warned: while the entrance/reception is on the main terminal concourse, reaching the lounge itself means climbing six flights of stairs to the terminal roof, and I never spotted a lift, though the operator says reduced-mobility access exists. A long line greeted me on arrival, but two receptionists kept it moving and the screen behind them confirmed walk-ups were welcome. Priority Pass and Dragon Pass both scanned without issue. Pay-on-the-day entry is quoted at around €60, which I would not call good value.

Comfort

The climb up the stairs pays off. I walked into a spacious, bright room painted in warm terracotta, with very high ceilings and plenty of natural light. There are general lounge seats and a separate dining area with proper chairs and tables.

What you won’t find are recliners or quiet sleeping zones, which fits the three-hour cap. What really sets it apart, though, is the large outdoor terrace, complete with patio seating, a couple of sun loungers, and a covered section for smokers in poor weather. Shade is limited, so pick your spot carefully in high summer.

Food & Drink

The food and drink mark a huge improvement on the old Aspire lounge. A hot buffet serves actual meals, and I had a warm tomato pasta with olives and chilli that filled a gap nicely. There was a salad bar and sandwiches too.

The dessert counter was hard to ignore, and I gave in to the lemon cheesecake and a brownie, both very tasty. An early morning run had earned it. The full-service bar pours draught beer, wines, and spirits, while a proper barista machine handles proper coffee rather than pods.

For our review visit to the Primeclass Lounge, we found the food to be plentiful, good quality, hygienic, and well-presented – in all, a big step up for Sofia Airport.

Toilets and showers

The toilets are generously sized for a lounge of this scale. Fittings are brand new and modern, and everything was clean on my visit.

WiFi, power & productivity

Anyone working will be well served. Window-height benches come with pop-up charging covering USB-A, USB-C, and mains sockets, while lower round desks suit collaborative tasks. Two private phone booths handle calls away from the main room. The complimentary WiFi did the job for browsing and messaging.

Extras

Self-service baggage lockers sit at two points: by the downstairs entrance and again at the top of the stairs as you enter. They are handy for wandering the terminal hands-free. There is also an enclosed children’s playroom at the far end, a thoughtful inclusion for families.

BG1 verdict

BG1 rating

This is a very nice new lounge for Sofia and a major upgrade on what came before. It suits one to two hours of pre-flight waiting or working. We’re not sure it’s worth paying €240 for a family of 4 – few lounges can justify that – but Priority Pass or Dragon Pass holders will be pleased. The stairs and three-hour cap rule it out for long layovers, but for everyone else this Primeclass Lounge Sofia Airport review lands firmly positive.
