Royal Air Maroc joins Oneworld on 1 April 2020

As one Oneworld member leaves, the world’s second largest airline alliance has announced that Moroccan airline, Royal Air Maroc, will become a full member on 1 April 2020.

The start of reciprocal benefits

From 1 April 2020, current Oneworld frequent flyer members will be able to earn and redeem miles on Royal Air Maroc flights. Members of Royal Air Maroc’s Safar Flyer loyalty programme will be able to earn and redeem miles on the rest of the Oneworld network.

Safar Flyer gold members may be surprised to discover that they will no longer be the top tier from 1 April. A new platinum tier will be introduced which will be matched to Oneworld Emerald (BA Gold) status. Safar Flyer Gold members have been matched to Oneworld Sapphire (BA Silver). Safar Flyer Gold and Platinum members will be able to access Oneworld lounges around the world, while Safar Silver members will have to made do with priority check-in.

Enhancements to the Oneworld network

Royal Air Maroc is the first Oneworld member to be based on the African continent and opens Casablanca as a gateway to 50 new destinations, predominately across Africa. To facilitate better access to the new Casablanca hub, American Airlines will commence regular flights from New York JFK to Mohammed V International Airport from 4 June 2020.

Royal Air Maroc is the first airline to join Oneworld since TAM and US Airways joined in 2014, following their departure from Star Alliance.
