Hampton by Hilton Bournemouth Review

Our Verdict: Reliable, well-located Bournemouth base with a cracking breakfast

Bournemouth has no shortage of budget and mid-range hotel chains competing for your attention, but the Hampton by Hilton Bournemouth sits in a useful sweet spot. I was visiting family on the south coast and wanted somewhere consistent, easy to park near, and with a breakfast worth getting up for. Hilton Honors points availability sealed the deal. This is a no-nonsense, limited-service hotel that competes directly with Premier Inn and Holiday Inn Express, and it does the basics well.

Location

The hotel is well-located on Upper Terrace Rd, tucked between the Bournemouth International Centre and the town’s central shopping district. Most of what you’d want to reach is walkable. The seafront and Bournemouth Pier are roughly a 10 to 15 minute stroll through the Lower Gardens. That said, this isn’t the hotel for expansive sea views or an “on the beach” feeling. Bournemouth train station is about 15 minutes away if you’re arriving by rail.

Check-in

I’d checked in online beforehand, but noticed the only rooms being offered had adjoining doors. For a solo visit that wasn’t ideal. With 120 rooms at the property, the front desk sorted it out without fuss. The lobby is compact and functional. As a Hilton Honors member I was handed a bottle of water and a snack. Parking is available directly beneath the hotel, though spaces can be tight if you’re driving anything larger than a hatchback. The nearby Wintergarden car park is a better bet for bigger vehicles at ยฃ13 per day.

Our Room

The queen room with sea view was compact but well thought out. The queen bed measures 150cm x 200cm – adequate for two but not generous. Hampton rooms are efficiently laid out: desk area, wall-mounted TV.

I had a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower. No bathtub, which is standard for the brand.

From the upper floor I had a partial view towards Bournemouth Pier. Free Wi-Fi worked without issue. Some rooms have adjoining doors – useful for families, but worth avoiding if you’re a light sleeper travelling alone.

Facilities & Services

This is a limited-service hotel, so set your expectations accordingly. Beyond the basics, there is a small fitness centre, free Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour snack area. There is no pool, no spa, no concierge and no room service.

Bars & Dining

There is a full bar on site serving draught beers, wine, spirits and soft drinks, staffed by the reception team. Prices were reasonable. A limited menu of bar snacks is also available, though you’re better off heading into Bournemouth’s town centre, which is on the doorstep with plenty of restaurants within a few minutes’ walk.

Breakfast

Breakfast is included in the rate at every Hampton by Hilton worldwide – a non-negotiable brand standard. The buffet here was very good. Hot options covered the usual full English staples: scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, beans and toast. Cold options included pastries, cereals, fruit and yoghurt. The star turn was the famous Hampton waffle maker – reportedly the single most discussed amenity across the entire brand’s guest feedback.

Check-out

Checkout was at 11am, though I was able to request an extension until midday. The bill was settled automatically via the card on file, and a receipt emailed to my Hilton Honors account. Express checkout meant there was no need to stop at the front desk – I simply left the key card in the drop box and walked out.

The Hampton by Hilton Bournemouth does exactly what the brand promises: a clean, consistent, well-located hotel with a strong complimentary breakfast. At ยฃ92 per night it represents solid value for families, groups of friends visiting the coast, or business travellers attending events at the BIC. One tip: check your room allocation during online check-in, as some rooms have adjoining doors. The front desk can sort it out, but it’s easier to flag upfront.
